About Hope’s Door | New Beginning Center

The mission of Hope’s Door New Beginning Center is to offer intervention and prevention services to individuals and families affected by intimate partner and family violence and to provide education programs that enhance the community’s capacity to respond. Hope’s Door New Beginning Center provides hope and healing to victims of domestic abuse and their children. We have outreach offices and shelters in Plano and Garland, and serve residents of Collin and Dallas counties, although our services are available to anyone who needs help. All victim services are offered free of charge.

In 2017, our crisis advocates answered 5,854 calls to our emergency hotline and we housed 470 adults and children at our emergency shelters over the year. We also assisted 150 families with rental assistance, counseling, and case management through our transitional housing program. All clients, adults and children, are eligible for counseling and 1,496 adults and 908 children were seen last year. Additionally, our legal department assisted 498 survivors through the legal process with child custody, protective orders, restraining orders or divorce representation.

Our education offerings include an evidence-based treatment program designed to hold batterers accountable for their actions and teach the fundamentals of healthy, nonviolent relationships. Course objectives include challenging participants’ beliefs and behaviors with emphasis on power and control issues and developing a plan for positive lifestyle change which promotes equality in all relationships. Community education efforts include multiple prevention programs including Teen Dating Violence Prevention, DV 101, and professional education offered in schools, community groups, churches, and professional settings.
